Community Service Event – Urban Farming with Keep Growing Detroit
Organized by the Emerging Leaders Community Engagement Team
Saturday, June 2, 2018
1 – 4 p.m.
Downtown Detroit – Exact Location to be determined
Keep Growing Detroit (KGD) exists to promote a food sovereign city where the majority of fruits and vegetables Detroiters consume are grown by residents within the city’s limits. Our staff operate a number of established and nationally recognized programs, including the Garden Resource Program (GRP) and Grown in Detroit (GID).
Volunteers will be preforming generic farm work: transplanting, weeding, planting, and harvesting. Gloves and tools will be provided.
Please bring a full, reusable water bottle. Everyone should wear clothes and shoes that they can get dirty, wet, and muddy and are appropriate for the weather that day. We will work outside rain or shine, but if there is lightning we will have to leave the farm. Sunscreen is recommended.
Want to help out, but can’t attend?
Since Keep Growing Detroit is a non profit, donations are welcome! Monetary donations of $10 per person are greatly appreciated. We also welcome any material donations of sharpees, dry erase markers, clean gardening gloves and hand trowels which are always needed at the farm.
