As hospitals across the country move toward recovery and reopening, others in new COVID-19 hot spots are feeling the impact of surging ED visits, stretched capacity, and rapid response measures. As hospital responses vary, the one emerging reality of the coronavirus pandemic is the American healthcare system will face a new normal for the foreseeable future.
For the past several months the healthcare delivery system has been faced with unprecedented challenges. COVID-19 patients flooded into some hospitals, nonemergent procedures and visits came to a grinding halt nationwide, and costs for PPE and other supplies escalated causing a drastic financial strain to hospitals. An influx of government grants and loans has helped hospitals survive but now they are dealing with the complex decisions of how to move forward when the future is uncertain. Doing so is a balancing act of redesigning delivery models, financial restructuring, and exploring new affiliations, while still caring for patients and preparing for possible resurgence volume.
There isn’t one clearly defined path forward, as many factors will impact the difficult decisions healthcare leaders must make. This session will explore how some healthcare leaders are defining, prioritizing, and executing on strategies to lead their organizations forward in the new dynamic.
