Virtual MCACHE Annual Meeting – Joy and How Small Things Can Have a Big Impact on Our Overall Attitude

November 4 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Preparing for an unplanned or unexpected event, such as a natural disaster, pandemic, civil disturbances, medical error or labor disputes (e.g., union labor) causes physical, psychological, and emotional stresses that can overwhelm employees, medical staff, patients, and communities. In the event of a crisis, the quality and efficiency of care delivery may be challenged and typically takes a toll on every part of the organization. Lack of the unknown or uncertainty is also a challenge that healthcare leaders face in the time of crisis. Healthcare leaders need to understand ways to prepare their organization for unforeseen circumstances through leveraging resources. Many HCO’s are struggling to find staff and fill open shifts. This panel discussion will highlight ways in which an RN at Henry Ford, the CEO of Children’s, and the COO of Ascension Macomb-Oakland incorporate joy into their workplaces and how small things have a big impact on our overall attitude.

Speakers

  • William J. Mott, Jr., FACHE, Ascension St. John Macomb-Oakland COO, calls himself the COO of Hope/Joy.  Every month he pens “Musings from Mott,” inspirational stories with uplifting messages that encourage staff to stay connected to the hospital’s overall mission.
  • Erin Cavanagh, RN at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, will share her inspiration for purchasing superhero t-shirts to boost staff morale in the Emergency Department.  Finding joy in a costume earned her team a feature spot on Good Morning America and a shout-out from Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot.
  • Kathy Donovan, CEO of Children’s Hospital of Michigan, will show us how the use of color in the Troy Specialty Hospital provides patients a sense of calm as they navigate through the environment.  The facility was designed with sunny yellow windows and colorful Lego-style blocks, giving it a playful environment that is less scary to children.

You can earn 1.5 face-to-face credits for attending the entire Zoom program. This program has been developed and is presented locally by the Midwest Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives. As an independent chartered Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Midwest Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives is authorized to award 1.5 hours of Face-to-Face Education credit toward advancement or re-certification in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
