Preparing for an unplanned or unexpected event, such as a natural disaster, pandemic, civil disturbances, medical error or labor disputes (e.g., union labor) causes physical, psychological, and emotional stresses that can overwhelm employees, medical staff, patients, and communities. In the event of a crisis, the quality and efficiency of care delivery may be challenged and typically takes a toll on every part of the organization. Lack of the unknown or uncertainty is also a challenge that healthcare leaders face in the time of crisis. Healthcare leaders need to understand ways to prepare their organization for unforeseen circumstances through leveraging resources. Many HCO’s are struggling to find staff and fill open shifts. This panel discussion will highlight ways in which an RN at Henry Ford, the CEO of Children’s, and the COO of Ascension Macomb-Oakland incorporate joy into their workplaces and how small things have a big impact on our overall attitude.
